Handling: We have found that a small percentage of patients may encounter a lens-handling learning curve when moving into our high-performance, high-water lens materials. However, after learning and implementing some simple SpecialEyes contact lens care & handling tips, they should be able to obtain months of great vision from our custom soft contact lenses. Once patients have been informed of these handling requirements, tears are much less likely to occur; which should minimize or eliminate the need for warranty lens replacements
Tip 1: Gently rub; don’t scrub. Our lenses are not meant to be “scrubbed.” A light digital rub is fine;
however, patients should avoid excessive scrubbing, which can tear the lens.
Tip 2: When preparing to insert a lens, the patient should carefully pour the lens into his or her hand. Advise patients that they should never use fingernails or tweezers to remove a lens from the vial or contact lens case.
Tip 3: When removing a lens from the eye, the patient should first apply a rewetting drop and then gently slide the lens out using the pad of a finger.
