Get Started With OptiSync® Technology
OptiSync® Technology is a customization feature that offsets (shifts) the multifocal optics from the center of the lens and targets alignment with the patient’s visual axis to improve their experience.

Step 1: Obtain Measurements
Obtain patient Ks, manifest Rx, HVID (if possible), true refractive add power, and pupil size. If you are interested in learning techniques to measure a patient’s HVID, visit our How to Measure HVID page available in the learning center. Watch this video to learn how Moshe Schwartz, OD creates a successful, efficient, and enjoyable fitting experience through patient communication.
Step 2: Contact SpecialEyes
Contact SpecialEyes and let us design the Multifocal contact lenses for you. If you prefer to design the lens yourself, use the SpecialEyes Arc Length Calculator or Prescribing Nomogram to determine the base curve and diameter of the multifocal contact lens.
Next, contact the SpecialEyes Consultation Department or use the online SpecialEyes Multifocal Simulator to determine the multifocal zone sizes.
Tip: Near center lenses OU is recommended as a starting point. The size of the multifocal zones will be determined by the patient's pupil sizes in ambient/regular room illumination. Success is dependent upon accurate pupil size measurements.

Your trial Multifocal contact lenses will arrive in 2-4 business days
Step 3: Evaluate Fit
Evaluate on-eye performance of the trial multifocal contact lenses. Assess fit and visual acuity at both distance and near. If these are acceptable, dispense the lenses and allow the patient to adapt. Re-evaluate the lenses at the next follow-up visit. If performance is acceptable, your successful trial lenses become the first pair. You may then contact us to order the remaining supply.
Step 4: Evaluate Remake Trial Lenses (if necessary)
Contact a SpecialEyes consultant to order remake trial lenses based off of your multifocal contact lens fitting evaluation results.

Provide details on fit of lens, binocular visual acuity at distance and near, monocular visual acuity at distance and near, and over-refraction results. The center-zone size, aspheric power progression, peripheral zone, fit, and power of the 54 Multifocal contact lens can be altered to assist in meeting each patient’s specific distance and near visual-acuity needs.
Many times, we find that suboptimal visual acuity can be attributed to pupil size and the manner in which the multifocal optics are distributed. SpecialEyes consultants are trained to decipher which change will be most appropriate -a multifocal zone change versus a power change.
Prior to making changes for vision, always confirm:
- Appropriate fit
- Stable rotation
- Solid refraction
- Accurate pupil size
Step 1: Obtain Measurements
Obtain patient Ks, manifest Rx, HVID (if possible), pupil size, add power, and eye dominance. If you are interested in learning techniques to measure a patient’s HVID, visit our How to Measure HVID page available in the learning center.
Step 2: Contact SpecialEyes
Contact SpecialEyes and let us design the 54 Bifocal contact lenses for you. If you prefer to design the lens yourself, use the SpecialEyes Calculator or Prescribing Nomogram and the Bifocal Center Zone Starting Points. We recommend starting with the near center lens on the dominant eye and the distance center lens on the non-dominant eye. (The near center lens is the distance-vision lens and the distance center lens is the near-vision lens.)
Next, Provide the lens design or exam parameters to SpecialEyes via phone, email, or fax:

Step 3: Evaluate Fit
Evaluate on-eye performance of the trial bifocal contact lenses. Assess fit and visual acuity at both distance and near. If these are acceptable, dispense the lenses and allow the patient to adapt. Re-evaluate the lenses at the next follow-up visit. If performance is acceptable, your successful trial lenses become the first pair. You may then contact us (using any of the above methods) to order the remaining supply.
Step 4: Evaluate Remake Trial Lenses (if necessary)
